FLORENCE, Ala. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team dominated North Alabama Friday night, hitting a season-high .435 as a team to sweep by the Lions, 25-9, 25-16, 25-14.
 
Quin Sutphin and 
Emma Schurfranz hit .727 and .667 respectively for the match, both career-highs, recording 17 and eight kills each. The Owls were also a force to be reckoned with at the service line, logging 12 aces thanks to a career-high six from 
Bri Becerra and three a piece from 
Lauren Chastang and 
Jessie Cohen.
 
How it Happened: KSU (15-6, 8-1) set the tone early, racing out to a 12-1 lead over the Lions (3-20, 1-9) behind an 11-0 run which featured three aces from Becerra. From there, the Owls cruised to the first set victory, pushing their lead to 16, 23-7, after a late 5-0 run. KSU hit .556 in the set as Chastang sealed the 25-9 victory with an ace.
 
The second set was a much closer affair at the onset as the two teams traded points tied 9-9. It was then that the Owls pounced as a kill from Chastang sparked a 5-0 run, featuring three kills from Chastang and another two aces by Becerra, to lead 14-9. KSU pushed its lead to 10 points, 21-11, following another 5-0 run capped off by two aces from Cohen sandwiched around a kill by 
Dani Ballou. UNA managed to pull back within 10 before a kill by Chastang closed out the set 25-16.
 
The Lions attempted to bounce back in the third set, taking an early 5-2 lead. The Owls eventually tied it up before three straight kills from Schurfranz put KSU in front 10-7. Schurfranz would tack on the next two points for the Owls, recording six of her eight kills in the final set. Leading by four, KSU closed out the match with an 8-1 swing and 
Madeline Johnson hammered home the final nail in the coffin to record the 25-14 set victory and secure the sweep.
Notes: The Owls hit a season-high .435 as a team, a mark that ranks sixth all-time in KSU single-match history ... 
Quin Sutphin's 17 kills marks the third time this season she has recorded 15 or more kills in a match, sixth time she's hit over .500 in a match ... KSU's 12 aces is the second most all-time in a three set match and the sixth time this season the Owls have recorded double-digit aces ... 
Bri Becerra's six aces set a program record for aces in a three-set match ...
