» The Owls' attack leads the conference, averaging over 13 kills per set, one of four teams to do so. Both
Lauren Chastang and Quin Stuphin have top-10 spots in the league as Chastang currently leads the ASUN with 296 total kills while Stuphin is 10th with 197. Â
» Karlee Groover joined a premier club last weekend after tying her season high of 32 digs against Liberty. She is now one of four Owls in program history to record 1,000 career digs. Groover has logged 20 or more digs in back-to-back matches, seven times on the year, and is currently ranked fourth in the conference in both total digs (353) and digs per set (4.58).Â
» Lauren Chastang continues to be an all-around force for the Owls so far this season, capturing her 11th double-double of the season in KSU's recent match against Liberty. Chastang is tied for first in the conference for total kills and 12th for total digs. She is one of just three players in the ASUN to have over 200 kills and 200 digs on the year.Â
» Lexi Broadwater remains one of the nation's best setters, averaging 11.35 assists per set to lead the conference and rank ninth in the country. Her 874 total assists also ranks fourth in the NCAA. With 126 more assists this season, Broadwater will hit 1,000 assists on the year, marking just the sixth time in program history a setter has recorded more than 1,000 assists in a single-season.
Ace in the Hole
The Owls have picked up the aggressiveness at the service line this year, averaging 1.95 aces per set to lead the ASUN and rank fifth in the NCAA.
KSU has recorded over 10 aces in five matches this season, setting and tying the single-match record with 14 against Furman and North Alabama. The Owls' 14 against UNA also marked the most aces all-time in a four-set match.
The Owls have recorded eight or more aces in five of the last six matches.
Lauren Chastang has been a huge factor in KSU's success at the service line, recording three or more aces in seven matches this year. After tying her career-high with six against UNA, she set a new single-season record with 45 aces so far this season. She leads the ASUN and ranks sixth in the NCAA for aces per set (0.58) and total aces.
Including Chastang, six Owls have logged at least 10 aces on the year,
Karlee Groover,
Bri Becerra,
Lexi Broadwater,
Shelby Dennis and
Jessie Cohen.
Both Groover (6th) and Broadwater (9th) rank among the league's top-10 for total aces with over 20 on the year. Groover's 0.32 aces per set average comes in at ninth in the ASUN.Â
QUINtessentially dominant
Despite playing in only one set against Jacksonville,
Quin Sutphin still remains one of the top hitters in the ASUN, leading the Owls and ranked fourth in the league hitting .340 on the year.
If maintained, that mark would rank second on the KSU single-season record list.
Over the current five-match stretch, Sutphin has logged double-digit kills in four matches. The Fort Mill, S.C., native has hit .300 or better in 12 matches this year, .500 or better in five.
Sutphin is second on the team, 10th in the ASUN, with 197 total kills, recording double-digit kills in 11 matches, including an impressive 21 kills at Alabama where she hit a blistering .679, both career-high marks.Â
Set Up For SuccessÂ
Lexi Broadwater recorded 52 assists in KSU's recent match against Liberty to mark the sixth time this season she has recorded 50 or more assists in a match. Broadwater leads the ASUN and ranks ninth in the NCAA averaging 11.35 assists per set, recording over 40 assists in 12 matches.
She is one of two players in the league and 21 players in the country to average over 11 assists per set.
Her 874 total assists already ranks 10th on the KSU single-season record list. If she maintains her current assists per set average, it would break the single-season record she set last season.
Setting a career-high 63 assists against Furman, the senior tied the second-most assists ever in a single-match. In program history, an Owl has recorded over 60 assists in a match seven times, two of which have been Broadwater.
With 2,316 assists in her career, Broadwater is one of three players in program history to record over 2,000 career assists. Currently averaging 10.53 assists per set for her career, if maintained, she would set the new program career record.
We Can Dig It
The Owls are one of three teams in the ASUN to log over 1,100 digs this season, currently ranked third in the league with a 14.70 digs per set average.
Five Owls have hit the century mark for digs with
Karlee Groover recording her 300th dig in KSU's recent match at FGCU. Groover has logged double-digit digs in all but two matches this year and is currently ranked fourth in the conference for both total digs (353) and digs per set (4.58).
The Newnan, Ga., native has totaled 20 or more digs in seven matches this year, tying her career-high with 32 against Liberty. With 1,025 digs in her career, Groover became the fourth Owl in program history to record over 1,000 career digs.
The Film Room
North Alabama welcomes the Owls coming off a four-match road stretch. The Lions are 3-19 overall and 1-8 in the ASUN with their only win coming in four sets against NJIT.
Freshman Anna Katherine Griggs leads the way for UNA, recording 119 total kills and 65 blocks. The middle blocker is tied for sixth in the league for total blocks.
The Owls won their meeting earlier this season, rallying after dropping the opening set to win the match in four.
