Major Test Awaits As Owls Head To Lipscomb Friday

» The Kennesaw State volleyball team hits the road for its first true test of the conference slate, squaring off with the Lipscomb Bisons in Nashville Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Bisons have finished among the top-4 in the ASUN every year since 2008 with five ASUN Tournament titles in that span, including back-to-back wins in 2015 and 2016.

» Quin Sutphin continues to tear it up as of late, logging back-to-back games with a .500 hitting percentage against UNF and Stetson. In the past three matches, the Fort Mill, S.C., native has committed only two errors. She currently leads the team and ranks fourth in the ASUN with a .338 hitting percentage, one of eight players in the league to hit over .300 on the year.

» The Owls have one of the most formidable attacks in the ASUN and in the NCAA, leading the league with a 13.71 kills per set average, one of three teams to average over 13 kills per set. That mark is also good enough for 32nd in the country. KSU's 795 total kills this year ranks 17th in the NCAA. So far this year, five Owls have hit the century mark in kills led by Lauren Chastang with 215. Dani Ballou (105) is the most recent Owl to join the century club along with Quin Sutphin (140), Emma Schurfranz (127) and Jasmine Brown (112).

» Setting up KSU's offense, senior Lexi Broadwater is one of the nation's top setters, ranked among the top-10 in the NCAA for total assists and assists per set. Broadwater is one of two players in the ASUN to average over 11 assists per set, leading the league and ranking ninth in the NCAA with an 11.29 average. Her 655 total assists ranks third in the country.

» The Owls are on track to set a new standard from the service line this season, averaging 1.84 aces per set to lead the ASUN and rank 16th in the NCAA. KSU's 107 total aces on the year ranks 11th in the country. Lauren Chastang is currently ranked eighth in the nation with 32 aces, being one of four Owls ranked in the ASUN's top-15. Karlee Groover is fourth with 21 aces, followed by Bri Becerra in eighth with 15 and Lexi Broadwater in 12th with 13.

» Libero Karlee Groover is currently ranked fifth in the ASUN averaging 4.19 digs per set. Groover jumped to fourth on the KSU all-time career digs list with 915, needing just 85 more digs to become the fourth Owl in program history to record over 1,000 career digs.  

Dr. Quin
Quin Sutphin has been surgical on the attack as of late, hitting .500 or better in the last three matches. During that span she has committed only two errors.

Sutphin currently leads the Owls and ranks fourth in the ASUN hitting .338 on the year. She has recorded a hitting percentage over .300 in nine matches so far this year.

The Fort Mill, S.C., native is hitting .504 over the current six-match span. She opened that stretch hitting a blistering .679 at Alabama with 21 kills, both career-high marks.

Sutphin has recorded double-digit kills in four of the last six matches, falling one kill shy of hitting 10 in the other two.

Killing the Game
As a team, KSU leads the way for the ASUN and ranks 17th in the NCAA with 795 total kills, being one of three teams in the league averaging over 13 kills per set (13.71).

The Owls are on track to break the single-season record for kills that was set last season. If maintained, it would mark the third straight season, third time in program history, KSU has averaged over 13 kills per set in a season.

So far this year, KSU has recorded over 70 kills in three matches, Georgia Tech (71), Furman (76) and Samford (71), falling three kills shy of the current record against Furman. Before the season, KSU had only recorded over 70 kills in eight matches all-time, the most recent coming against USC Upstate in 2016.

Lauren Chastang and Quin Sutphin both rank in the ASUN's top-10 for kills with Chastang ranked third with 215 followed by Sutphin in eighth with 140.

Double Trouble 
Lauren Chastang has recorded seven double-doubles so far this season.

Chastang has 215 kills for the year, placing her third in the ASUN. She is one of six players in the league to average over three kills per set (3.71).

The BayMinette, Ala., native is also second on the team, 11th in the ASUN, with 157 total digs. Chastang is currently averaging 14.3 kills and 10.5 digs per set.  

Pocket Aces
The Owls have been lights out from the service line this year, serving up 107 aces to rank 11th in the country. KSU is averaging 1.84 aces per set, a mark that would break the single-season record, to rank 16th in the NCAA.

Five Owls have recorded at least 10 aces so far this year with Lauren Chastang's 32 currently ranked eighth in the NCAA. Her current season total is already ranked fifth on the KSU single-season record list, needing just seven more to tie Lexi Broadwater's mark set last season.

Karlee Groover is second on the team, fourth in the ASUN, with 21 while Bri Becerra ranks eighth with 15. 

Set Up For Success 
After 44 assists against Stetson, tied for the second most ever in a three-set match, Lexi Broadwater maintained her top ranking in the ASUN, averaging 11.29 assists per set. She is one of two players in the league to average over 11 assists per set, ranking ninth in the NCAA.

Her 655 total assists ranks third in the nation, one of five players in the NCAA to tally over 600 assists on the year.

Setting a career-high 63 assists against Furman, the senior tied the second-most assists ever in a single-match. In program history, an Owl has recorded over 60 assists in a match seven times, two of which have been Broadwater.

With 2,097 assists in her career, Broadwater is one of three players in program history to record over 2,000 career assists. 

The Film Room
The Bisons host KSU after splitting their conference opening weekend, downing Stetson in five sets before getting swept by FGCU.

Lipscomb is 5-8 on the year, ranked fourth in the ASUN averaging 12.35 kills per set. Libero Alyssa Zwolensky paces the Lipscomb defense averaging 4.06 digs per set to rank sixth in the league.

Looking Ahead
Following Friday's match, the Owls have a split weekend, hosting North Alabama Friday (Oct. 11) before traveling to FGCU Sunday (Oct. 13)
