Owls Add Transfer Jamie Lewis

1/7/2019 1:44:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's basketball team added standout guard Jamie Lewis to the roster Monday morning as announced by Head Coach Al Skinner.

"The most important thing is that you have to have a quality back court to have success and we are bringing in a talent that I think is going to help, particularly at the point guard position," said Skinner. "He's a talented young man and that's what we are continuing to do, improve and upgrade our talent, and he allows us to do that. With that improvement, we think we'll start recognizing some real success."

Lewis, the brother of current redshirt freshman Danny Lewis, has transferred from Wake Forest and has already begun classes at KSU. Per NCAA transfer rules, Lewis will sit out the rest of the 2018-19 season and the first half of the 2019-20 season.

"It's always important when you can have an individual come to your program early, be integrated into it, and find out what it takes for us to be successful," continued Skinner. "And if there is a system to be learned to be able to learn and understand his teammates and coaches. I think when he starts to play it makes that transition much easier."

The Atlanta, Ga., native was an ESPN top-100 recruit and consensus four-star prospect following his junior year of high school, but was forced to miss his entire senior season due to injury.

As a sophomore at Westlake HS he averaged 16 points, eight assists and five rebounds per game to help lead the Lions to a Class AAAAAA state championship. The next season, Lewis averaged 10 points per game, dealing with nagging injuries on-and-off during the year, on his way to being named a first-team all-region selection.

At Wake Forest, he saw action in eight games, coming off the bench each time, logging five rebounds, two assists and three points in 35 total minutes.

Before joining the Demon Deacons, Lewis had offers from Baylor, California, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Missouri, N.C. State, UConn and Xavier.
