FLORENCE, Ala. – The Owls (5-13, 1-4) fell 80-65 to North Alabama (14-2, 5-1) in their second ASUN road game of the season.
The Owls got off to a slow start after North Alabama jumped out to a quick 8-0 run to force an Owl timeout.
Amani Johnson and
Alexis Poole hit back-to-back jumpers to cut the deficient in half at the 5:49 mark in the first quarter before
Peyton Lewis knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:20 in the quarter to make it 15-11, North Alabama. The end of the first frame ended 19-13 in favor of the Lions.
Kennesaw State cut the lead to just two points after a free throw from Poole, 19-17, but the Lions, went on a 13-2 run to expand the lead to 32-19. At halftime, Poole tallied eight points while
Kamiyah Street recorded three assists. North Alabama's Ivy Wallen led all scorers with 21 points in the first two periods.
The Lions' game plan against Street worked, as the sophomore did not score until 1:22 mark in the third quarter. The Owls trailed the Lions 59-41 at the end of the third frame and were shooting 34.7 percent from the field in through the first 30 minutes.
The hot shooting from the Lions continued in the fourth quarter and the Owls could not keep up on the offensive side of the court. The Lions finished shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from deep. Johnson finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists while Poole ended with 14 points and eight rebounds.
