KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls (5-12) rallied late, but could not complete the comeback as they fell to FGCU (13-4) 69-46 on Saturday afternoon.
Poole opened the day's scoring as the Owls and Eagles traded early buckets with another layup from Poole knotting the game at 6-6 with 8:19 to play. After a three-minute scoreless drought, FGCU netted the next nine straight points to take a 15-6 lead at the 4:01 mark. Back-to-back buckets from
Kamiyah Street and
Amani Johnson got the Owls back on the board before a trey from FGCU closed out the quarter 20-10 in favor of the Eagles.
The two teams locked it down in the second quarter with only one made bucket a piece throughout the first six minutes. FGCU's Tanner Bryant finally broke the drought with a layup, before
Breanna Hoover drilled a corner three-pointer to make it 26-20 with 2:32 to play. The Eagles closed out the half on an 8-0 run to lead 36-22 at the break.
FGCU extended its lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Owls 12-2 until a jumper from
Lexi Mann gave KSU its first bucket of the quarter to make it 48-26 with 3:22 to go. The Eagles outscored KSU 22-5 in the third to lead 58-27 heading into the final quarter.
The Owls flipped a switch in the fourth quarter, going on a 13-0 run to pull within 20, 62-42, following a pair of free throws from Mann with 3:22 to play but could not fully recover and fell to the Eagles.
