PREVIEWING 2018 MEDIA DAY
• Kennesaw State's historic and record-breaking season ended at the hands of Sam Houston State after the Owls became the first FCS team in its third year to reach the playoff quarterfinals.
• Kennesaw State (12-2, 5-0 Big South) steamrolled through its season to be crowned Big South Champions, winning 12-straight games after its season opener — the longest win-streak in league history.
• One of the quickest jumps to prominence in NCAA history, Kennesaw State's 12 wins were the most by an FCS program in its third year, joining Old Dominion as the only football startup (since 2008) to produce winning seasons in its first three years. (see "Winningest Starts, First 3 Years" on p. 2)
• Kennesaw State touted the country's leading rushing attack last year, gaining 4,623 yards on 816 attempts (330.2/game) en route to a national-best 216 first downs via the ground.
• The Owls also sported the Big South's top offense overall, leading in rushing offense, scoring (30.1 points/game; 421 total points) and total offense (435.1 yards/game).
• Defensively, Kennesaw State was stout, helping create the nation's top turnover margin (+23) by creating 24 interceptions (second in FCS) — 11 more than the next Big South team.
• In total, the Owls were third in the country in turnovers gained (35), forcing 11 fumbles and intercepting 24 passes.
• Individually,
Chandler Burks and
Bryson Armstrong had two of the more historic seasons on record in 2017.
• Burks led the Big South and/or ranked among the nation's top 15 in five different statistical categories on offense, including rushing touchdowns (1st in nation - 18), scoring (1st in Big South/14th nationally - 108 points), rushing yards (1st/13th - 1,103), total touchdowns (1st/3rd - 18) and points responsible for (1st/21st - 162).
• Not to be outdone, Armstrong co-led the nation in fumbles recovered (4), while also leading the Big South in sacks (11 solo) and all league linebackers in tackles (114). He also ranked third in the conference in tackles-for-loss (12.5) and fourth in tackles per game (8.6) en route to earning the Jerry Rice (National Freshman of the Year) Award.
