KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State senior defensive back Nicolas Snowden is one of 169 student-athletes to be nominated for the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the American Football Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes student-athletes for their dedication to volunteering and giving back in their community and enriching the lives of others.
Snowden is active in volunteering at local children's hospitals on room visits, as well as assisting in coordinating the Kennesaw State football team's support for a local child with a severe, life-threatening condition. Over the course of his career and this past year, he lent his time to visiting local elementary schools to read to students, as well as leading music at his church and serving as a leader in the student ministry. Through the church's youth ministry, the Snellville, Ga. native also mentors youngsters in middle school.
On the field, Snowden helped Kennesaw State to a historic season that included a Big South Conference Championship and postseason wins over No. 14 Samford and No. 3 Jacksonville State. He was a part of a defense that ranked third in the country in turnovers gained (35) and recorded at least one interception in all 14 games. In 35 career games, Snowden has 13 tackles, 1.0 tackles-for-loss and one fumble recovery.
The senior is currently working on his health and physical education degree and most recently was named to the Big South Honor Roll.
Comprised of student-athletes across the board from NCAA Division I FBS and FCS, as well as Division II/Division III/NAIA, the final 22-member 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be unveiled in September. The team will be selected by a special voting panel consisting of former Good Works Team members and prominent college football media. Former Good Works Team member Tim Tebow (Florida – 2009) and Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN) headline the voting panel.
Kennesaw State finished 12-2 in 2017, ranking No. 8 in the final national poll after becoming the first NCAA Division I program to make the FCS quarterfinals in its third year. The Owls' 12 victories set a new NCAA record for an FCS program in just its third season and their 12-straight wins marked the longest hot streak in Big South history. KSU capped the historic season as the country's leading offensive attack and the conference's leading defense.
With 18 starters returning, Kennesaw State will look to kick off the 2018 campaign when it travels across town to face Georgia State on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
