KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior second baseman
Grant Williams went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Kennesaw State to a 9-6 come-from-behind victory over No. 16 Stetson in the opener of a three-game ASUN Conference series Friday at Stillwell Stadium.
With the Owls (16-14, 3-1) trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Williams hit a two-out home run down the right field line to spark a three-run rally then produced a two-run single in the seventh inning to give Kennesaw State its first lead of the game at 7-5.
Williams' home run came after Stetson starter Logan Gilbert (6-1) had retired the first 11 batters he faced, and marked the first of two hit in the inning by the Owls, who also received a two-run homer from junior outfielder
Jake Franklin.
Kennesaw State totaled 11 hits in the game, including nine against Gilbert, who entered the paly with a 16-game winning streak dating back to last season. The Owls scored eight runs on nine hits against the Hatters' ace.
David Chabut had two hits and scored a twice, while
Tyler Simon collected a pair of hits and had two RBIs.
Logan Hutchinson (1-1) pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn the victory, while
Jake McLinskey pitched the final two innings to earn his second save of the season.
The two teams continue their three-game series with a 2 p.m. contest Saturday at Stillwell Stadium.
