KENNESAW, Ga. –
Abigail Green struck out a career-high 15 batters and
Kira Czyrklis delivered a clutch two-out triple in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Kennesaw State softball team to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Georgia Tech Wednesday at Bailey Park.
Â
Green (14-4) out-dueled Yellow Jackets starter Emily Anderson as she limited Georgia Tech (21-18) to a pair of hits and two walks while pitching 10 innings in a career-best outing. The Owls' senior right-hander struck out at least one batter in eight of 10 innings, including striking out the side twice.
Â
Anderson, who allowed eight hits, one walk and struck out six in nine innings, worked out of bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fourth inning before giving way to Brooke Barfield (2-2) in the 10th inning.
Â
After retiring the first two batters to begin the inning, Barfield walked
Patricia Awald before surrendering a triple into the right-center field gap to Czyrklis that scored Awald and sent the Owls (29-13) sprinting out of their dugout and into a celebration.
Â
Czyrklis,
Alexa Solorzano,
Maddie Roth and
Noelle Winkles had two hits apiece to lead the Kennesaw State offense.

LEXI'S DAY: The two teams took part in a pre-game ceremony as part of Lexi's Day festivities. The annual game partners the Kennesaw State Softball program with the Alexis Kaiser Foundation in an effort to assist local young people who suffer with a neuromuscular disease.
Prior to the game,
Scott Whitlock, former head softball coach and current senior associate athletics director, and 15-year old Alexis Kaiser presented 8-year old Khalon Riddle with an I-pad. Fans who attended the game had the opportunity to support Lexi's Day by purchasing a $10 meal provided by the Marietta Fish Market.
Â
The meals, combined with the chance to purchase Lexi's Day T-Shirts and contribute additional money through the passing of a helmet throughout the stands, raised more than $6,000. All of the proceeds from the night go directly to the Alexis Kaiser Foundation.
Â
NEXT UP: Kennesaw State is next in action on Saturday when it travels to Fort Myers, Fla. to open a weekend ASUN Conference series at Florida Gulf Coast. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday before concluding the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
