FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Maddie Roth and
Kira Czyrklis homered, and
Alley Cutting struck out 10 in six scoreless innings to lead the Kennesaw State softball team to a 7-0 victory and split of a doubleheader with Florida Gulf Coast Saturday in Fort Myers.

The Owls (30-14, 9-2) let a 3-0 lead slip away in the opener as Florida Gulf Coast (30-13, 4-4) took advantage two sixth-inning errors to score three unearned runs to tie the score, before completing the come-from-behind victory with a run in the seventh.

Roth put Kennesaw State ahead 1-0 with a first-inning home run and Czyrklis connected for a two-run shot in the second inning to lead the Owls in game two. Czyrklis went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Roth had a pair of hits, two runs scored and drove in two runs.

Cutting (10-7) turned in a solid outing in the circle, limiting the Eagles to three hits and striking out 10, while not walking a batter before giving way to
Hailey Andrews, who pitched a scoreless seventh.

In the opener,
Lauren Bennett went 3-for-3 with a run scored and RBI, and Roth and two hits and two RBIs to help the Owls take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

Abigail Green (14-5) was a tough-luck loser as she pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed six hits, four runs (one earned), walked one and struck out six.

Kennesaw State will go for series win when it concludes the weekend with a 12 p.m. contest on Sunday.
