KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's
Fermin Calvo Barcelo was named ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference announced Wednesday (Apr.11).
"Fermin did an amazing job last weekend by winning two really tough matches against quality opponents," director of tennis
Eduardo Rincon said. " He's definitely a great asset for this team on and off the court. I'm looking forward for what the rest of the season brings for him."
The junior was 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles play over the weekend at Stetson and UNF. He leads the team with a 12-4 record in singles and is 4-0 in ASUN singles action.
He beat Malik Bhatnagar of Stetson 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 on Thursday at No.1 singles. He would pick up his 11
th straight win in singles on Saturday over Jefta Kecic of UNF 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).
In doubles, the Mar Del Plata, Argentina native teamed up with
Manuel Castellanos to pick up a win over Linus Bergevi and Colter DeCoste 6-3 at No.1 doubles.
This is Calvo Barcelo's second consecutive ASUN Player of the Week Award this season and fourth of his career.
The Owls return to action on Thursday, April 12 when they host NJIT at 4 p.m. for senior day on the Betty Siegel Courts. Admission is free.
