KENNESAW, Ga. – Four home runs and clutch hitting highlighted the day's action as the Kennesaw State softball team defeated Belmont and Fort Wayne during Friday's opening action in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament at Bailey Park.

Senior Noelle Winkles clubbed a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and collected a school-record eight RBIs during the Owls' 14-5, five-inning victory over Belmont (13-4). Junior Maddie Roth homered and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lift KSU (11-8) to a 4-3 win over Fort Wayne (8-15).

Winkles went 4-for-6 with four runs scored in the two games, while sophomore Andrea Summey had three hits, freshman Patricia Awald had a pair of hits and three runs scored, and sophomore Olivia Tamewitz had a hit in both games and scored four runs while extending her career-long hitting streak to 12 games.

With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Tamewitz led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Summey, and scored the winning run on Roth's single to center field.

Freshman Raleigh Williams started in right field versus Fort Wayne and clubbed her first career home run, a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning that tied the game, 2-2.

Sophomore Alley Cutting (3-4) turned in a strong outing against Fort Wayne as she tossed seven innings, scattered five hits, did not allow an earned run, walked one and struck out six in a complete-game effort.

Senior Abby Green (4-3) earned her team-high fourth victory of the season versus Belmont as she pitched four innings, allowed four hits, four runs, walked five and struck out eight. Sophomore Abby Deane pitched one inning of relief and surrendered one hit and a run.

The Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament continues on Saturday with an altered schedule as the teams attempt to get a full slate of games in before expected rain in the late afternoon. Kennesaw State and Fort Wayne will open play at 8 a.m., and the Owls will be back in action versus Mercer at 4 p.m.
