KENNESAW, Ga. – Olivia Tamewitz had a 4-for-4 game, and Patricia Awald and Noelle Winkles clubbed three-run home runs to highlight the Kennesaw State softball team's doubleheader sweep of UAB Wednesday at Bailey Park.

The Owls (9-8) also received solid relief work from Alley Cutting who earned a save and victory while helping KSU move above .500 for the first time this season following 4-2 and 11-3 victories.

After collecting one hit in the opener, Tamewitz tallied a career-high four hits in the nightcap to extend her hitting streak to 10 games. Awald has also hit safely in 10 straight games after producing two hits in game one and connecting for a three-run home run in game two.

Abigail Green (3-3) started the opener for the Owls and pitched six innings, scattered eight hits, surrendered two runs, and stuck out four. Cutting relieved Green with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh, and struck out two batters to preserve the win.

KSU scored single runs in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings. Awald drove home a run in the first inning to put the Owls on top, 1-0. Lauren Bennett had an RBI on a groundout in the second and tripled home a run in the sixth.

In game two, Awald highlighted a four-run third inning with a three-run homer to give KSU a 4-0 lead. UAB (7-17) answered in the top of the fourth with a three-run shot of its own to move within a run at 4-3.

Kennesaw State broke the game open with another four-run inning in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run pinch-hit double by Alexa Solorzano.

Winkles enabled the Owls to walk off with a win in the bottom of the sixth after drilling a three-run home run over the right field fence to give KSU an 11-3 victory.

Kennesaw State collected 12 hits and had 11 RBIs in game two. Awald, Winkles and Solorzano accounted for eight of the 11 RBIs.

Cutting (2-4) earned the victory after relieving Hailey Andrews in the fourth and striking out four in 2 2/3 perfect innings.

Kennesaw State returns to action Friday when it hosts Belmont and Fort Wayne during the opening day of the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament. The Owls and Bruins will get underway at 5 p.m.
