KENNESAW, Ga. – Sophomore
Olivia Tamewitz drilled a double into the right-center field gap to drive home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Kennesaw State to a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over UConn Sunday at Bailey Park.
The walk-off hit capped a big day for Tamewitz, who went 3-for-4 and extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
Kennesaw State (7-8) trailed 1-0 with two outs in the sixth inning before senior
Noelle Winkles clubbed a home run over the right-center fence to tie the score.
Senior Abby Green worked a perfect seventh inning, setting the stage for the seventh-inning dramatics.
Jessie Mullen opened the bottom of the seventh with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Lauren Bennett. After
Andrea Summey pinch-ran for Mullen, Tamewitz drilled a 1-0 pitch into the gap in right-center field to score Summey with the game-winning run.
Green (2-3) was stellar in two innings of relief as she retired all six batters she faced while striking out three.
NOTES
- Olivia Tamewitz concluded a productive week on Sunday as she batted .476 (10-for-21) with two runs scored, four doubles and three RBIs in six contest, while extending her hitting streak to 10 games. She slugged at a .667 clip and posted a .500 on-base percentage, and stole three bases.
- Freshman Patricia Awald had a big week, batting .500 (8-for-16) with four runs scored, two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. She posted a .813 slugging percentage and .526 on-base percentage. With one hit on Sunday, Awald extended her hitting streak to eight games.
- Abby Green made four appearances, including two starts, during the week and registered a 2-1 record and 1.94 ERA. In 18 innings, Green struck out 23 batters.
