KENNESAW, Ga. – The pitching duo of Abigail Green and Alley Cutting, and timely hitting were a winning formula for the Kennesaw State softball team as it swept North Florida in an ASUN Conference doubleheader Friday at Bailey Park.

The Owls (24-12, 4-1) captured the opener, 4-1, and came back in the second game to record a 5-0 victory.

Alexa Solorzano had two hits, including her first career home run, and drove in a pair of runs, and Kira Czyrklis had two hits to provide the offense in the opener.

After allowing a first-inning run, Green (10-4), held the Ospreys (20-19, 0-5) scoreless the remainder of the game, allowing two hits, walking four and striking out eight.

Kennesaw State broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning. Olivia Tamewitz put the Owls on top with a single to right field that plated two runs. Solorzano provided KSU with an insurance run with a solo blast over the left field fence in the sixth inning.

The offense struck early in game two, scoring five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Maddie Roth.

That proved to be all the run support Cutting (8-6) would need as she limited North Florida to one hit, walked one and struck out a career-high tying 12 batters. The Owls' right-hander held the Ospreys hitless through four innings before allowing a leadoff single in the fifth. She faced one batter of the minimum, while throwing just 86 pitches.

The two teams conclude their three-game series Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest at Bailey Park.
