RALEIGH, N.C. – Maddie Roth and Patricia Awald led a 21-hit attack to lead the Kennesaw State softball team to a pair of victories during the final day of the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge that concluded Sunday in Raleigh.
 
The Owls (22-11) defeated Marist 8-0 in five innings before posting an 8-2 victory over host North Carolina State to complete the tournament with a 4-1 record and finish as the de facto champion.
 
Roth and Awald combined to go 9-for-13 with four runs scored and seven RBIs. Awald went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, two home runs and five RBIs.
 
The Kennesaw State freshman highlighted the Owls' win over Marist by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, five RBIs and two home runs, while Roth had three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.
 
Senior Abigail Green (8-4) was the beneficiary of KSU's offensive output as she worked five innings, allowed one hit, walked three and struck out eight.
 
Roth, Olivia Tamewitz and Andrea Summey had two hits apiece and Noelle Winkles homered to support Alley Cutting (7-5), who pitched a complete game against North Carolina State.
 
The Owls jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and Cutting did the rest as she worked seven innings, allowed two runs and struck out seven.
 
Kennesaw State returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Athens to take on nationally-ranked Georgia beginning at 6 p.m.
