RALEIGH, N.C. – Olivia Tamewitz and Noelle Winkles collected three hits apiece, but the Kennesaw State softball team came up a run short, falling 4-3 to host North Carolina State during the second day of the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge in Raleigh.
 
Despite out-hitting the Wolfpack, 12-7, the Owls (20-11) were unable to come up with the timely hit as they left 13 runners on base. KSU had at least one baserunner in each of the first six innings.
 
Kennesaw State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Tamewitz scored on a bases-loaded passed ball. However, the Wolfpack (18-12) answered in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game on a run-scoring double and taking a 3-1 lead on a two-run home run.
 
North Carolina State extended its lead to 4-1 with a run in the fourth inning before KSU rallied with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it a one-run game. The Owls had runners on second and third with one out, but were unable to make it a big inning.
 
Kennesaw State was slated to play Marist later on Saturday, but the schedule was revised due to rain. The Owls will play twice on Sunday, facing the Red Foxes at 10 a.m. before taking on North Carolina State at 2:30 p.m.
