KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team added to its record book during a 26-7 victory over visiting Grambling State in the opener of a three-game non-conference series Friday at Sillwell Stadium.
The Owls (10-12) batted around twice in the first five innings, scoring in each frame, highlighted by a nine-run third inning that produced seven hits, including three doubles.
Griffin Helms and
AJ Willoughby each had three-run doubles.
Helms tied a Kennesaw State NCAA Division I program record with seven RBIs, while Willoughby's 10 total bases tied a program mark and his six RBIs equaled the second-highest total.
The top four batters in the Owls' lineup –
LaDonis Bryant,
Tyler Simon,
Grant Williams and Helms – combined to go 12-for-23 with 13 runs scored and 14 RBIs. Every batter in KSU's starting lineup had at least one hit and eight of nine had multiple hits.
That offense was more than enough for starter
AJ Moore (2-0), who worked five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked two and struck out five. The outing marked the 40th career start for Moore, who established the KSU NCAA Division I record for most career starts.
