THE STORYLINE:Â
· Five extra base hits—including three home runs—, and behind the right arm of starter RHP
Jake Rothwell, propelled Kennesaw State past Oklahoma Sunday afternoon, 9-4, in the series finale at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
· The Owls (9-12) defeated the Sooners (14-8) for the first time in program history and snapped a three-game losing skid.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Â Â
· The Owls' lineup produced nine runs on eight hits over three separate inning to take a 9-0 advantage over the Sooners through five complete.
· Kennesaw State scored eight runs on five extra base hits including home runs off the bats of
Griffin Helms (solo),
LaDonis Bryant (two-run HR) and
Tyler Simon (three-run HR), and a two-run RBI double to right center by
AJ Willoughby.
· KSU took its largest lead of the ballgame in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI single off the bat of
Terence Norman, taking a commanding 9-0 edge over Oklahoma.
· With the help of the offense, Rothwell got more than enough as the junior from St. Petersburg, Fla., was sharp all afternoon.
· The righty finished his day allowing just one run and eight hits over 6.0 frames of work.
· Rothwell punched out six Sooners and issued just two walks over 90 pitches, tossing 63 percent for strikes to earn the victory on the bump.
· Offensively for the Owls, seven different players recorded at least a hit in the ballgame, leading the efforts were Simon (2-for-5, three RBI), Helms (2-for-4, three runs, RBI), Norman (2-for-4, RBI), Bryant (1-for-2, two runs, two RBI), and Willoughby (1-for-4, run, two RBI
