THE STORYLINE:Â
· Tying a career-high nine strikeouts from starter RHP
AJ Moore, the Owls could not overcome a two-run sixth by Big 12 foe Oklahoma Friday night, dropping the series opener at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Oklahoma, 3-1.
· The Owls' (8-11) Moore worked a scoreless 5.0 innings on the evening, but a two-run sixth sealed the deal for the Sooners (13-7).
STORYLINE: Â Â
· In what became a pitchers' duel throughout the night between a pair of righties, the starting matchup between Moore and RHP Jake Irvin lived up to its billing during the series opener.
· Moore, a Dacula, Ga., native, struck out nine –tying his career high—in just 5.0 frames of work, allowing just four hits.
· The righty faced eight over the minimum work required on the evening and held the Sooners to just three hits over the first four innings, tossing 58 percent of his pitches for strikes.
· Oklahoma countered with right-hander Irvin, who tossed an impressive 6.1 frames allowing just five hits and one unearned run in his outing.
· After trading scoreless frames over the first five innings, Oklahoma scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth with two RBI walks.
· The Owls cut the deficit within one when sophomore OF
Terence Norman scored on a wild pitch, making it 2-1 through six and a half.
· The Sooners added an insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh and held off the Owls in the ninth to take the series opener.
