KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team combined solid pitching and timely hitting to sweep a doubleheader from visiting Bucknell Monday at Bailey Park.

The Owls (14-8), who extended their winning streak to eight games, defeated the Bison 4-0 in the opener, and followed with a 10-2, five-inning victory in game two.

Senior Abigail Green (5-3) struck out a season-high 10 batters in seven innings and freshman Alexa Solorzano had a two-run single, while Patricia Awald and Noelle Winkles tallied two hits apiece in game one.

Juniors Kira Czyrklis and Maddie Roth combined to go 4-for-7 with two runs scored and five RBIs to highlight a 10-hit Owls attack in the nightcap. Sophomore Olivia Tamewitz also contributed two hits while senior Lauren Bennett scored twice.

Kennesaw State scored three times in the first inning, added single runs in the second and third, and rallied for three runs in the fourth inning to build an 8-0 lead in game two.

Sophomore Alley Cutting (4-4) held the Bison (7-10) hitless through four innings before allowing a leadoff double in the fifth. She finished the game allowing one hit, two unearned runs, one walk and struck out seven.

With one hit in the opener and two in the nightcap, Tamewitz extended her career-long hitting streak to 15 games.

Kennesaw State returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Georgia State at Bailey Park beginning at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
