THE STORYLINE:Â
· A walk-off squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning by senior OF
Matt Mixon handed Kennesaw State a 7-6 victory over Sacred Heart, earning a doubleheader split versus Sacred Heart after dropping a 4-2 decision earlier at Stillwell Stadium.
· The Owls (8-9) totaled 24 hits and scored nine runs on the day and got strong starting pitching performances, while the Pioneers (3-8) dropped to five games below .500.
GAME 1 Â
·  RHP
Brooks Buckler worked an impressive 7.2 innings on the day, allowing one earned run (two total) on five hits.
· The righty worked five perfect 1-2-3 innings not allowing a hit and retired 12 straight at one point during the ballgame in a hard-fought no decision.
· He ended with 98 total pitches on the day, tossing 68 percent for strikes that resulted in a career-best seven punch-outs.
· Sacred Heart countered with RHP Brent Teller, who allowed two runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings.
· Senior 2B
Grant Williams' RBI single in the first gave Kennesaw State a 1-0 lead and then tied the tilt at 2-2 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
· The two teams took the game into the ninth deadlocked before the Pioneers crossed home twice to take a deciding 4-2 final.
· Offensively, the Owls were paced in Game 1 by Williams (2-for-3, run, two RBI),
LaDonis Bryant (2-for-3),
Tyler Simon (2-for-4), and
David Chabut (1-for-4, run).

· RHP
Jake Rothwell (1-) had an impressive outing, tossing 6.0 frames allowing just one run on four hits to earn the victory.
· The right-handed pitcher allowed just three hits over the first four innings, and recording seven punch-outs over that span.
· Rothwell finished his day with a career-best eight strikeouts and threw 69 percent of his pitches for strikes.
· Four doubles of the bats of
Taylor Allum,
Griffin Helms,
Grant Williams and
Garrett Hodges drove in five runs over the first three innings to hand Kennesaw State a 5-1 advantage.
· The Owls plated a crooked two in the first and second innings, before Hodges' RBI double in the third to take a four-run edge into the middle frames.
· KSU extended its lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth when
LaDonis Bryant connected on a fastball with two outs down the left field line, scoring
Tyler Simon from second.
· Sacred Heart battled back over the final three frames, plating four in the seventh and one in the ninth to tie the game at 6-6 to force extra innings.
· Simon, who finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs, singled to lead off the bottom of the 10, and came around to score the game-winning run on a squeeze bunt by
Matt Mixon.
· Offensively, the Owls were paced in the ballgame by
LaDonis Bryant (2-for-4, RBI),
Grant Williams (3-for-5, two RBI), and Simon (3-for-5, three runs).Â
