Post-Season Awards
Nick Masterson has worked extremely hard throughout his career and has been honored this past week with three post-season awards.
Â
He became the first Kennesaw State men's basketball student-athlete to be named ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year. That award came after landing on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the second year in a row.
Â
Then, Masterson was voted by the coaches ASUN Second Team All-Conference. It is the first all-conference award that Masterson has won in his career.
Â
50-50-90
Over the past four seasons,
Nick Masterson has been one of the deadliest long-range shooters in college basketball.
Â
He is second all time in the ASUN making 47.6 percent of his three-point attempts over his career.
Â
The past two seasons he has made over 54 percent of three-point attempts. Last season, he made 54.1 percent and has followed that up this season by making a staggering 54.7 percent of them.
Â
It's not only three pointers that Masterson shoots a high percentage from. He shoots 90.4 percent from the free throw line and has only missed eight attempts all season.
Â
From the field overall, he shoots 55.9 percent to complete the trio of 50-50-90. In the latest game, he was 12-16 from the floor against Lipscomb to score 30 points.
Â
When you combine his shooting percentage on two-point field goals, three-point field goals and free throws, Masterson has a total shooting percentage of 70.8 percent. That is the fourth best mark in the country.
Â
Second Half Comebacks
In three of the Owls wins in ASUN play, the Owls have trailed in the second half. Against UNF, KSU trailed by six with 5:49 left and went on a 12-2 run to take back the lead and seize control to get the win.
Â
The other two games came against USC Upstate. In the first game, KSU trailed by as many as 13 in the second half before making a comeback to get the win on the road.
Â
At home, Kennesaw State didn't let the Spartans build a lead and instead caught fire in the second half outscoring them 57-32 in the second half to get their biggest win of the season.
Â
Scott Fuels the Offense
James Scott has been explosive on offense at times this season helping the Owls reach double-digit wins for the fourth straight season.
