SPARTANBURG, S.C. –The Kennesaw State men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Owls defeated Wofford 4-3 on the Reeves Courts.
"This team has shown so much fight and resilience during the last few weeks," Director of Tennis
Eduardo Rincon said. "We have faced so much adversity but they have found a way to compete every single time. Today could have gone either way. Wofford is a tough team and they are well coached. I love every single team I have been part of but this team is special. This team is resilient. We will celebrate and enjoy this win but I we will hit the practice courts again as soon as possible! "
The Owls took early control of the match winning the doubles point for the second match in a row.
Fermin Calvo Barcelo and
Lucas de Torres Curth beat John Crawford and Julian Chousa, 6-2 at No.1 doubles and
Manuel Castellanos and
Corey Smith topped Lucas Cerbelli and Jack Thomas, 6-2 at No.2 doubles.
In singles action,
Fermin Calvo Barcelo won in three sets over Lucas Cerbelli, 6-1,4-6,6-0.
Corey Smith took home a straight-sets win over Edu Villar, 6-3, 6-4 at No.3 singles.
Lucas de Torres Curth picked up a win in the third set to knock Julian Chousa, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 and seal the win for the Owls at No.2 singles.
KSU (1-5) will travel to Montgomery, Al. to take on Alabama State on Saturday, March 3. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
