LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Kennesaw State softball team fell twice during second-day action at the Orange Blossom Tournament Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The Owls (1-3) suffered a 5-4, nine-inning setback to Quinnipiac before suffering an 8-0 loss to Northern Iowa.
Kennesaw State took one-run leads in the top of the eighth and ninth innings, only to see Quinnipiac (1-2) rally each time, including scoring two runs in the ninth to post the victory.
Freshman
Alexa Solorzano led the KSU offense as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while fellow rookie
Joirea Dumas delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the ninth that gave the Owls a 4-3 lead.
Kennesaw State, however, was unable to hold the lead in the bottom half of the inning, when by rule, a runner was placed on second, and Miranda Magana capped a big game with a two-run homer down the left field line that gave the Bobcats the victory.
Freshman
Hailey Andrews was impressive in her Owls debut as she pitched four innings, allowed three hits and an unearned run.
In the nightcap against Northern Iowa (8-1), Kennesaw State was limited to three hits from
Olivia Tamewitz,
Maddie Roth and Solorzano.
Tournament action concludes on Sunday with the Owls taking on LIU Brooklyn beginning at 9 a.m. at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
