MBB: Owls Take on ASUN Leading FGCU on the Road

Preview
Kennesaw State hits the final stretch of the regular season with its first of three straight road games against FGCU.
 
The Eagles have already clinched the ASUN Regular Season Championship this year sitting at 11-0 and winners of 12 straight.
 
The Owls also have some momentum heading into the game as they are winners of three straight and are once again playing its best basketball towards the end of the season.
 
The game will begin at 7 p.m. in Fort Myers, Florida and will be shown on ESPN3.
 
Scouting FGCU
FGCU has already clinched the 2017-18 ASUN regular season championship and is currently 11-0 in the ASUN.
 
They have won 12 straight games and have showed no signs of slowing down through conference play. In their last game against USC Upstate, the Eagles trailed by 15 at halftime, but stormed back to outscore the Spartans by 32 points in the second half.
 
FGCU is led by two guards in Brandon Goodwin and Zach Johnson.
 
Joe Dooley is in his fifth season as head coach at Florida Gulf Coast.
 
Player of the Week
For his effort last week leading the team to two wins and scoring his 1,000th career point, Nick Masterson was named ASUN Player of the Week. It is his first career weekly honor and the first Owl to win a weekly award this season.
 
He averaged 24.0 points per game against UNF and Jacksonville leading the team in scoring in both games. He went a combined 9-11 on his three-point attempts.
 
Masterson Reaches 1,000
Masterson was big in one of his final regular season games in the KSU Convocation Center leading the team with 28 points going 6-6 on three pointers. He came into the game 14 points away from getting 1,000 career points and he came out looking to score. He hit his fourth three pointer of the half at the 7:31 mark in in the first half to reach the milestone.
 
There has been an Owl reach the 1,000-point mark the last three seasons as Yonel Brown did it two seasons ago, Kendrick Ray did it last season.
 
Scott and Masterson Carry the Offense
Scott and Masterson have carried the offense through ASUN play. The two are averaging a combined 35.6 points per game.
 
Masterson is averaging 18.7 and Scott is averaging 16.9 per game. They have been the top two scorers for Kennesaw State in eight of the 11 ASUN games this season including both games last weekend.
 
Getting it Done When It Matters
Head coach Al Skinner always has his team playing their best basketball heading into February and it's shown in his first three years with the program. This year, the Owls are 3-0 so far in the final month of the regular season.
 
In his three seasons with Kennesaw State, they're 12-5 overall in the month of February.
 
This February, the team isn't only winning, but winning by a wide margin. In their last three wins, the Owls are beating their opponents by an average of 18.7 points.
