KENNESAW, Ga. – The All-America awards continue to pile up for the Kennesaw State football team as
CJ Collins and
Darnell Holland picked up honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) on Friday morning.
Â
Collins earned another first team nod, giving him All-America honors from STATS FCS, Associated Press, HERO Sports, and AFCA, while Holland earned second team honors. The Owls have now placed seven different players on All-America teams since the end of the regular season.
Â
On the heels of earning All-Big South first team honors in 2017 and 2018, Collins makes his fourth All-America team after helping facilitate the No. 2 rushing offense in the nation at 352 yards per game. The Owls rushed for a school record 507 yards against Tennessee Tech and eclipsed the 300-yard mark 10 different times this season. KSU also ranked second in the nation in sacks allowed, giving up just five on the year.
Â
Collins created all kinds of running room for Holland, who took full advantage and rushed for 949 yards on just 80 attempts to average 11.9 yards per carry. A lightning bolt in the backfield, Holland became just the second player in Big South history with 70-plus yard touchdown runs in back-to-back weeks when he accomplished the feat against Tennessee Tech and Alabama State. He now owns three of the top five longest rushing TD's in school history. To go along with his nine rushing scores, Holland added two receiving touchdowns and led the team with 1,568 all-purpose yards, including running a kickoff back for a score.
Â
Both players are graduates of Kennesaw State and part of all four seasons of football, leading the Owls to 37 wins, two Big South Conference championships and back-to-back appearances in the FCS Playoffs quarterfinals.
Â
The senior class put together the second-most victories in the first four years of a start-up program since 2008 and were the only team to post two separate 10-game winning streaks in its first four years of existence.
