ATLANTA- On a special night for head coach
Agnus Berenato, the Kennesaw State (3-8) women's basketball team fell 60-35 to Georgia Tech (8-2) inside McCamish Pavilion.
Prior to tipoff, Georgia Tech honored Berenato with a gift and recognition for her efforts battling breast cancer. Both teams donned unique warmup shirts that featured the breast cancer awareness ribbon on the front and a quote from Berenato on the back.
The Owls' offense started fast after
Alexis Poole scored on the first possession of the game and
Kamiyah Street netted two early baskets to take a 6-0 lead. The Ramblin' Wreck finished the quarter on a 14-4 run but Street had six points to lead all scorers. Georgia Tech extended its lead to 31-17 at the half behind 14 first-half field goals.
A nuisance for the Tech offense much of the afternoon, Street collected her fifth steal with 2:56 to play in the third quarter and finished on the offensive end of the court for a basket. The Owls offense could not heat back up after the first quarter and the Yellow Jackets took the game 60-35.
The Kennesaw State defense was stingy all night, as they held Georgia Tech to just 60 points, which was the second-fewest points the Yellow Jackets have scored this season.
