ATLANTA- The Kennesaw State women's basketball (3-9) game fell 64-61 to Bethune-Cookman (7-2) in the GSU Holiday Classic.
With two seconds remaining in the game,
Kamiyah Street's 3-pointer rimmed out to tie the contest to lift the Wildcats over the Owls.
The Owls offense was diverse to begin the game as
Alexis Poole,
Amani Johnson and
Simina Avram each knocked down buckets to give Kennesaw State an early 8-4 lead. Poole took the reigns of the offense after the media timeout in the opening period and netted 10 points to give Kennesaw State a 16-13 advantage to end the first quarter.
The Wildcats opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 22-18 lead with 6:56 to go in the half. Down four at the 5:41 mark in the second quarter,
Kate Head drained a corner 3-pointer to pull the Owls within one point, 24-23. The points marked the first of her career. Poole continued to the dominate the contest and went into the break with 12 points and seven rebounds. Even with Poole's effort, the Owls went into the half trailing 32-29.
An 8-2 run to begin the second half for the Wildcats pushed their lead to 39-31 at the 7:37 mark in the third quarter.
Kamiyah Street waited until the third quarter to begin scoring, but the sophomore knocked five quick points midway through the third quarter to pull the Owls within four points, 42-38. The Wildcats held a 49-45 lead going into the final period.
The fourth quarter opened back-and-forth as both teams traded buckets. With 5:10 to play, Poole made a move on the block and scored to pull the Owls within two points. Following the media timeout, Johnson drained a pair of free throws to tie the ballgame. KSU regained the lead at 56-55 after Street split free throws with just over four minutes to play. Kennesaw State pushed the lead to four points after Johnson drained a corner 3-pointer in front of her bench. With 21 seconds to go in the game, the Wildcats made a 3-pointer to capture the 62-61 lead and the game.
