Chandler Burks was named the Big South's Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced by the league Monday. Burks has received the league's weekly award four of the last five weeks.
The award marks the ninth career weekly honor for Burks, after earning the weekly accolade four times as a junior and once as a sophomore. Only six players have earned the league's offensive player of the week award four or more times in a season. Coastal Carolina's Lorenzo Taliaferro holds the record with five.
Burks continued to re-write Big South history last Saturday, recording 97 rushing yards and four touchdowns in KSU's 49-0 shutout victory over Campbell. This is the second time this season and third time in his career that he has rushed for four touchdowns in a single game, establishing a new conference career record.
The Douglasville, Georgia, native has recorded multiple rushing touchdowns in eight straight games, bringing his season total to 23 which ranks second in Big South single-season history and is more than 212 of 253 FCS and FBS teams have recorded all season.
His 50 career rushing touchdowns is the most in Big South history.
Apart from his game on the ground, Burks also showcased his arm, going 3-of-4 through the air for 49 passing yards, including a 24-yard touchdown pass to
Justin Sumpter.
Burks will lead the Owls to New Jersey this weekend as he looks to clinch a Big South Championship at Monmouth Saturday at 12 p.m.
