KENNESAW, Ga. – Graduate quarterback Chandler Burks scored four rushing touchdowns and threw for another to lead No. 2 Kennesaw State to a 49-0 victory over Campbell on Senior Day Saturday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The Owls (8-1, 4-0) capped an undefeated regular season (5-0) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium and extend their home winning streak to a Big South Conference record 14 games. 

Burks led a group of 22 seniors, including 17 "OG's" who were part of the first recruiting class, to their ninth straight Big South Conference victory and one win away from a second straight conference title.
 
After a scoreless first quarter, the Owls scored on three straight possessions, as Burks produced a pair of one-yard runs and a 50-yard scamper to help Kennesaw State build a 21-0 halftime lead.
 
The fireworks continued in the third quarter as Darnell Holland returned the second half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown and 28-0 lead.
 
Kennesaw State, which scored on seven straight possessions, built a 42-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter as Burks connected with senior wide receiver Justin Sumpter on a 24-yard pass play and capped his day with a 4-yard run with 1:16 remaining in the third quarter.
 
Junior quarterback Daniel David threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to junior running back TJ Reed with 8:36 remaining for the Owls' final score.
 
Kennesaw State totaled 467 total yards of offense, including 395 on the ground. Sophomore running back Shaquil Terry rushed for a game-high 112 yards on eight carries.
 
The Kennesaw State defense limited Campbell (5-4, 0-3) to 138 total yards and was led by sophomore linebacker Charlie Patrick, who had five solo tackles, including two for loss.

Kennesaw State returns to action next Saturday when it travels to West Long Beach, N.J. looking to clinch back-to-back Big South Conference championships at Monmouth. Kickoff is set for 12-noon.

  • Kennesaw State won its 14th straight home games to establish a Big South Conference record.
  • The win marks KSU's ninth consecutive conference victory and 20th win in its last 22 games, while improving to 1-0 all-time against Campbell.
  • Kennesaw State recorded its second shutout of the season and fifth in program history.
  • KSU had two one-play scoring drives against the Fighting Camels, bringing its season total to eight. The Owls also have 13 scoring drives of under one minute.  
  • Kennesaw State rushed for 300 yards for the fourth straight game. 
  • The Owls held Campbell to only 11 yards of offense in the second quarter.
  • With 21 points in the third quarter, KSU has now outscored opponents 138-7 in the third quarter.
  • KSU held Campbell to 92 rushing yards, marking the third time this season the Owls have held an opponent to less than 100 yards on the ground.
  • Coming into the game, Campbell quarterback Daniel Smith was averaging 270.2 yards of total offense (199.5 yards passing, 70.7 yards rushing). The Owls held Smith to 75 total yards (46 yards passing, 29 yards rushing).
 
Individual
  • KSU had four captains today, Trey Chivers, Chiaza Nwadike, Devin Pughsley and Brandon Sutton, all OG's who served as captains for the first time in their career.
  • Chandler Burks became just the fourth player in Big South history to record at least 20 rushing touchdowns in a single-season.
  • With four rushing touchdowns, Burks increased his career total to 50 and set a Big South Conference record. He has also rushed for two or more scores in eight straight games.
  • Burks has recorded at least three rushing touchdowns in five games this season, tying the Big South season record.
  • With 23 rushing touchdowns this season, Burks now ranks second in the Big South single-season list.
  • Burks had four rushing touchdowns for the second this season and has three in his career to set the Big South record for four or more rushing scores.
  • Darnell Holland's 84-yard kickoff return TD was the third of the season for the Owls and marked the fourth-longest in program history.  
  • Shaquil Terry led the team with 112 rushing yards, marking the first time this season and fourth time in his career he has surpassed the century mark.
