ATHENS, Ga. – Redshirt-junior
Bryson Lockley recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points while tying his career-high with 11 rebounds, Tuesday night as the Kennesaw State team fell to Georgia, 84-51, at the Stegeman Coliseum.
Â
Three Owls finished in double-figures, led by freshman
Ugo Obineke with 12 points, followed by
Tyler Hooker with 11 and Lockley with 10.
Â
How it happened:Â The Owls traded buckets with Georgia to open the game, but a 7-0 run for the Bulldogs gave UGA a 9-4 advantage at the first media timeout. KSU managed to pull within three, 14-11, following a free throw from
Antonio Spencer. UGA responded with a 10-0 run before Hooker snapped the streak with back-to-back buckets, his first of the game, to make it 24-15 at the 6:26 mark.
Â
Following two free throws from Lockley, the Owls proceeded to go on a five-minute scoreless drought in the dying minutes of the first half. UGA took advantage, going on a 15-0 run to lead 39-17 at the 1:39 mark. Hooker finally broke the drought with a three-pointer in the final seconds to make it 39-20 at halftime.
Â
KSU came out firing to open the second half with a 6-2 run in the opening minutes. The Owls hung with Georgia throughout the opening portion of the second half, chipping away at the UGA lead to get within 13, 50-37, following a 5-0 run with 13:09 left to play.
Â
That would be as close as KSU would get though as the Owls recorded only one bucket over the next six minutes. Georgia built its lead to 69-39 during that span before a jumper from Obineke finally broke KSU's scoreless drought. The Owls attempted to pull it close, but the two teams traded buckets throughout the rest of the game.
Â

Quotes:Â Head Coach
Al Skinner
On his thoughts about the game…
"It's really pretty simple, you've got to be able to put the ball in the basket. We didn't score very well, and it led to runouts for them. If we score the ball better, then we don't have these results. First half we got good shots, we didn't put the ball in the basket. The game is really that simple for us right now, and hopefully we will start to score the ball better, because then it will take away those transition baskets that they were getting. I thought we did a decent job in the half court, but again the game is about scoring points and we didn't do that well at all and haven't done that well the last couple of games."
Â
On Bryson Lockley's double-double…
"I'm happy for him, he played a lot of minutes, a little bit more than I wanted him to play… It's coming in pieces, yeah he gets a double-double tonight, Ugo was okay, but we have to coordinate this so everyone is doing this. We are in flux, because some nights one guys is good and the next night another guy is good. We have got to get all of our guys good at the same time and that is really what we are working towards."Â
Â
Up next:Â The Owls return to the Convocation Center this Saturday to host Hofstra in a game slated for 2 p.m.
