KENNESAW, Ga. – After leading the Kennesaw State football program to back-to-back Big South Conference championships and the No. 4 overall seed in the FCS Playoffs, head coach
Brian Bohannon has been named a finalist for the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award.
Â
Bohannon is one of 15 coaches named to the Eddie Robinson Award finalist list, which honors the FCS national coach of the year. He is finalist for the second consecutive year as the Owls enter the playoffs on a 10-game winning and will host a second round playoff game on Saturday, Dec. 1 against either Wofford or Elon.
Â
Named for the legendary coach of Grambling State and first presented in 1987, the Robinson Award's esteemed list of winners include Mark Duffner, Erk Russell, Chris Ault, Jim Tressel, Houston Nutt, Andy Talley, Paul Johnson, Joe Glenn, Mike Ayers, Jerry Kill, Jerry Moore, K.C. Keeler and two-time winners Mickey Matthews, Sean McDonnell and Craig Bohl.
Â
In just four years, Bohannon has turned a start-up Kennesaw State football program into a national powerhouse and ranked No. 2 in the nation for six-straight weeks. Under his watch, the Owls are joined by UCF and Alabama as the only Division I teams in the country to win 10 consecutive games in each of the last two seasons.
Â
KSU has been unstoppable at home and enters the playoffs with third longest home winning streak in FCS football, winning 14 consecutive games in a streak that dates back over two calendar years. The Owls are 21-3 all-time at Fifth Third Bank Stadium as they look to make another deep run in the playoffs.
Â
The Eddie Robinson Award will be presented at the STATS FCS Awards Banquet in Frisco, Texas, on Jan. 4. At the banquet, STATS will also present the Walter Payton Award (FCS offensive player of the year), the Buck Buchanan Award (FCS defensive player of the year), the Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman player of the year) and the Doris Robinson FCS Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
