ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands – The Kennesaw State basketball got off to a slow start against Old Dominion in its second-round game of the Paradise Jam Tournament, eventually falling to the Monarchs 65-47.
How it happened: KSU (1-4) opened the scoring behind two buckets from
Kosta Jankovic to take a 6-2 lead, but ODU (2-2) answered with an 11-0 run capped off by back-to-back three-pointers.
Tyler Hooker pulled the Owls within one, 15-14, with a 6-0 run of his own at the 9:24 mark, but that would be the last points the Owls scored in the first half.
The Monarchs proceeded to close out the first half on a 16-0 run to lead 31-14 as the Owls went cold. The Owls shot 18.5 percent from the field in the first half, while ODU went 5-of-12 from three-point range.
ODU continued its run with the first six points of the second half before
Bobby Parker finally snapped KSU's drought with a jumper at the 15:47 mark to make it 37-16. The Monarchs maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second half as both teams traded buckets.
The Owls cut into ODU's lead with a 10-2 run thanks to seven points from Hooker to make it 58-43 with 4:06 left to play. The KSU comeback ended there as ODU built its lead back to 20 points to hold off the Owls.
KSU kept pace with ODU in the second half, scoring 33 points to ODU's 34 while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor.
