FB: Burks Lands On National Player of the Year Watch List

11/15/2018 8:51:00 AM

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Kennesaw State graduate quarterback Chandler Burks has landed on the College Football Performance Awards Midseason FCS National Performer of the Year Watch List, the organization announced Thursday morning.

Burks, who is one of 32 players from around the country to earn a spot on the list, continues to rewrite the Big South Conference record books and is on his way to etching his name along the best players in FCS history.

The graduate student leads all FBS and FCS players with 26 rushing touchdowns on the year, more than 221 of the 253 Division I football programs in the nation. He is just one rushing score shy of tying the FCS single-season record for rushing TD's by a quarterback. His 53 career rushing scores are also the most in Big South history.

Burks has rushed for multiple touchdowns in nine straight contests and has 11 (six in 2018) career three-plus rushing touchdown games, which are both Big South records. He is 29-5 (.852) as a starting quarterback and has led the Owls to victory in 21 of their last 23 contests.

Burks joins the CFPA Midseason FCS National Performer of the Year Watch List after garnering spots on the preseason CFPA list along with the Walter Payton Award Watch List, which honors the FCS's best offensive player.

The No. 2 Owls wrap up regular season play this Saturday (Nov. 17) at SunTrust Park against No. 6 Jacksonville State. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. on Fox Sports Southeast. To buy tickets click here and to purchase parking click here.
