WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Running Back Darnell Holland rushed for a program-record 195 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead No. 2 Kennesaw State to a 51-14 victory over Monmouth and a second consecutive Big South Conference championship Saturday afternoon.
 
Quarterback Chandler Burks rushed for three scores and TJ Reed added a rushing touchdown as the Owls (9-1, 5-0) accumulated 412 yards on the ground and finished with 502 total yards, seven shy of tying a season high.
 
Holland scored on runs of 9, 46 and 59 yards to lead the Owls (9-1) to their ninth consecutive win and extend their Big South Conference winning streak to 10 games.
 
After falling behind 14-7 with 11:42 remaining in the second quarter, Kennesaw State scored 44 unanswered points to reach the 50-point mark for the fifth time this season.
 
The Owls took their first lead of the game on a 40-yard field goal by Justin Thompson on the final play of the first half to go ahead 17-14. KSU scored on all five of its second-half possessions to secure the win and a second straight conference title.
 
Kennesaw State opened the second half with a 10-play, 66-yard drive that consumed 5:10 of clock time and was capped by a 1-yard run by Burks that increased the Owls' lead to 24-14.
 
Meanwhile, the KSU defense turned in a dominant second-half performance as it pitched a shutout. The Owls' defense limited the Hawks (7-3, 3-1) to 192 total yards (84 passing, 108 rushing).
 
Sophomore Charlie Patrick led the charge with 14 tackles (11 solo), including two tackles for loss.
 
Kennesaw State concludes its regular season Saturday (Nov. 17) when it hosts Jacksonville State at SunTrust Park beginning at 3 p.m.

Coin Toss: Monmouth won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.

TEAM 

• In just its fourth year of existence, Kennesaw State has captured back-to-back Big South Conference championships.

• The Owls are the third Big South team in conference history and the first program in the last 10 years to win back-to-back league titles with an undefeated record in league play.

• KSU snapped Monmouth's 10-game home winning streak, the sixth longest streak in the country. 

• Kennesaw State's 412 rushing yards mark the fifth time this season the Owls have totaled 400 or more yards.

• Heading into the game, Monmouth was holding teams to an average of 106.6 rushing yards per game to lead the Big South. 

• With Darnell Holland's 59-yard rushing score, KSU now has 14 touchdown drives in under a minute this season.

• The Owls have recorded 500 or more yards of total offense in four of the last five games.

• Over the past five games, KSU has outscored its opponents 250-41.

INDIVIDUAL

• Chandler Burks recorded three rushing touchdowns, giving him a nation-leading 26 on the year, 53 in his career.

• Burks has logged multiple rushing scores in nine consecutive games, and has three or more rushing TDs in six contests this year. 

• With 26 rushing scores, Burks is one touchdown away from tying the all-time FCS record for rushing scores in a season by a quarterback.

• Darnell Holland set the program's all-time record for rushing yards in a game, recording 195 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

• Holland eclipsed 2,000 career rushing yards to join Chandler Burks as the only two KSU players to accomplish the feat.

• Charlie Patrick paced the Owl defense with a career-high 14 tackles, tying the KSU single-game record with 11 solo tackles.
