SOC: Owls Fall in ASUN Quarterfinals, 2-1

HILLSIDE, N.J – A late second-half rally came up short as the Kennesaw State women's soccer team's 2017 season came to end after falling 2-1 to North Alabama in the quarterfinals of ASUN Championship Friday in Hillside, N.J.
 
The Owls conclude the year 12-6-1, while North Alabama improves to 10-8-1 and will play host NJIT in a semifinal match on Sunday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
» North Alabama struck first, scoring at the 28:55 mark when Anna Bove' scored from inside the box following an assist from Kylie Huey.
» The score remained 1-0 until the 61:21 mark when Huey scored following an assist from Bove'.
» Kennesaw State answered one minute later when Erin Harris broke away on a counter, beat two defenders and the goalkeeper to score and cut the deficit in half at the 62:27 mark.
» The Owls kept the pressure on over the final 25 minutes of the match and finished the contest with a 16-13 shot advantage.

"I am proud of my team. Soccer can be a tough game sometimes and these ladies left it all out on the field and that is all I can ask of them," head coach Benji Walton said. "Congratulations to North Alabama on a well-played game. I wish them well moving forward."

NOTES
» With a 12-6-1 record, Kennesaw State recorded its highest win total since posting a 17-4-0 record in 2007.
» The five conference wins by the Owls are their most since they finished third in the ASUN with a 5-3-1 mark in 2013.
» The Owls went 7-1-1 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium and have posted an 8-1-2 mark in their last 11 home matches dating back to 2017.
» Sophomore forward Erin Harris finished the year leading the Owls with 18 points, scoring six goals and adding six assists.
