KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State volleyball team enjoyed a special evening Friday, sweeping Jacksonville, 25-13, 25-12, 25-15, to remain undefeated in the ASUN while honoring young Rubi Brunsman during the fourth annual Griffin's Game.
Before the match, five-year-old Brunsman and her family took to the court and were greeted with a standing ovation. Rubi is in the midst of her battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and all the proceeds from tonight's t-shirt sales and donations will go directly to Rubi and her family.
An official count on how much was raised is still being done and will be posted on KSUOwls.com in the coming days. In the meantime, t-shirts can still be purchased

How it happened: The Owls (16-4, 7-0) set the tone from the get-go, utilizing a 6-1 run to take an early 8-3 lead. Two more 3-0 runs gave KSU an 11-4 advantage as the Owls cruised to a nine-point lead, 18-9.
A 5-0 run, featuring two aces from
Lexi Broadwater, put the Owls on the doorstep, 23-11, with
Lauren Chastang logging the final kill of the set.
It was a similar story in the second set as KSU raced out to an 8-3 lead. The Owls found their groove, rattling off an 8-1 run to pull away, leading 17-6. The Owls recorded a phenomenal .591 hitting percentage in the second set to win 25-12 and take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Jacksonville adjusted during the intermission and challenged KSU early in the third set. The Dolphins earned their first lead of the match up 4-1 to open the set. The two teams traded points tied 8-8, but KSU pulled in front following a 3-0 run capped off by a kill from
Sydni Shelton.

Jasmine Brown. KSU closed out the match with a 6-0 run which featured two aces from Broadwater, two blocks from
Dani Ballou and a final kill from Brown.

Liesl Engelbrecht (.714),
Quin Sutphin (.700) and
Madeline Johnson (.700) …
Lauren Chastang's double-digit kill streak came to an end as she logged a team-high eight kills to go along with three digs and two blocks …
Lexi Broadwater tied her career-high with five aces … that mark ties the single-game record for aces in a three-set match and fourth all-time … Broadwater has now recorded 29 aces on the year, ranking seventh all-time in a single-season.
Quotes: Head coach
Keith Schunzel
On Griffin's Game…
"This is always such a special night for Bri, myself and our volleyball program. We take very seriously our ability to try and impact a local family in this community who is going through the same struggles that we went through with pediatric cancer. It was so neat to see a lot of people in the stands and for us to raise a ton of money for Rubi and her family."
On the Owls' performance…
"I challenge the team every year during this game to focus on the volleyball piece of it and let us focus on the outside distractions, and I thought our team did a terrific job of that. We played clean and well and came out with a three-set win."
Up Next: The Owls hit the road for a mid-week match at Lipscomb next Wednesday (Oct. 17) at 7:30 p.m.
