KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State began ASUN Conference play against the Lipscomb Bisons on Saturday, January 6 in the KSU Convocation Center. Lipscomb built up a double-digit lead in the first half and refused to let the Owls back in it as Kennesaw State fell 86-71.
Â
The Owls had three players score in double figures led by
Nick Masterson with 17 points.
Jordan Jones and
James Scott were right behind him with 15 points each.
Â
KSU got off to a great start using an early 11-0 run to force Lipscomb to take a timeout trailing 15-10.
Â
With 4:18 remaining in the half and Kennesaw State trailing 36-32, Lipscomb went on a 15-3 run to close the half with a decisive 51-35 lead into the break.
Â
In the second half, the Owls didn't go away getting to within nine points, but the Bisons Garrison Mathews was too much for KSU scoring 43 points in the game.
Â
Mathews scoring output kept Lipscomb out front not allowing KSU to cut into the lead anymore despite the Owls holding the Bisons to only 30 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Â
Jones was efficient for the Owls again tonight as he was 7-8 from the floor and finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Â
The loss drops Kennesaw State to 4-12 and 0-1 in ASUN play as they will now hit the road to Jacksonville. They will face the Jacksonville Dolphins on Thursday, January 11 and the North Florida Ospreys on Saturday, January 13.
