Weekend Preview
The Kennesaw State men's tennis squad opens its 2018 spring dual match schedule this weekend when it travels to Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday to take on Samford.
The men's tennis team will begin its tenth season at the NCAA Division I level that dates back to 2008. Kennesaw State is coming off a 13-8 campaign in 2017, and will have eight players return from a season ago to go along with four newcomers.
The Series
Sunday's match between Kennesaw State and Samford marks the second meeting between the two programs. Samford leads the series 1-0 after sweeping the Owls back in 2016.
The Last Time Out
Junior
Fermin Calvo Barcelo won the singles title at the Georgia Southern Championship to punctuate a strong weekend for the Kennesaw State men's tennis team in Statesboro, Ga. on October 29
th.
Calvo Barcelo dropped just two sets in winning four straight matches to claim the singles crown. Freshman
Bryan Triana won four matches to capture the consolation singles bracket.
The junior, who was a second-team All-ASUN selection last season as he set the Owls' single-season record for singles wins with 20, knocked off four straight opponents from Georgia Southern to claim the title. Calvo Barcelo won his first two matches in straight sets before dispatching Stefano Di Aloy 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals and JC Alcala 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in the championship.

The Owls continue their 2018 spring campaign traveling to Belmont on Friday, Feb. 2 in Nashville, Tennessee.
