VB: Owls Sweep Georgia State in the Convo

THE STORYLINE: 
· Kennesaw State protected the nest in dominant fashion against in-state rival Georgia State in straight sets at the KSU Convocation Center on Labor Day. Kristi Piedimonte capped a great weekend finishing the match with 35 assists and leading the team to hitting .423 overall. Maddie Jones led the team in kills with 14 hitting .500 in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The Owls cruised out to a 10-5 lead in the first and continued to put the pressure on behind six first-set kills from Sydni Shelton. Georgia State used its final timeout trailing 18-10 and the Owls finished the set on a 7-2 run.
 
The second and third sets were similar to the first with Kennesaw State taking big early leads to finish the sweep over Georgia State.
 
In all three sets, KSU had doubled up the Panthers at 10-5 forcing Georgia State to start using early timeouts.
 
SCHUNZEL'S QUOTE:
"We're playing some really clean volleyball right now. I like where we are mentally, and our team keeps pushing forward because they know we can continue to improve. We'll be excited to play two in-state opponents at Georgia Southern next weekend and then host two SEC opponents in the Convo."
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
· This victory moves Kennesaw State to 3-5 all-time against Georgia State, but the Owls have won the last three meetings. This is the first sweep over the Panthers.
· This is the third sweep for the team this year. They have won in straight sets against Clemson, St. Louis and now Georgia State.
· The Owls had three players with double-figure kills. Jones led the team with 14 and Liesl Engelbrecht and Shelton each had 10. All three players hit at least .500 in the match.
· Katarina Morton led the team with 15 digs. Overall, the Panthers hit .127.
· KSU finished the match with 51 kills compared to only 29 for Georgia State.  

UP NEXT
The Owls will travel to Georgia Southern next weekend to play the Eagles on Friday and then take on Savannah State on Saturday. Afterwords, the Owls will host Tennessee on Sunday, September 10 and Georgia on Tuesday, September 12.
