Game Preview
After an intense match against Lipscomb last Friday to move to 1-0 in ASUN action, Kennesaw State has another tough weekend on its hands facing FGCU and Stetson.
The Eagles come in at 9-5 on the season and 1-0 in ASUN play after defeating Stetson in the first weekend.
KSU and FGCU have split matches in the regular season the past two seasons, each winning on their home floor.
Saturday night Kennesaw State will host the 1-12 Stetson Hatters in the KSU Convocation Center with their one win against Savannah State.
Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Kennesaw State topped Lipscomb in a thrilling five-set match on Friday where the Owls faced three match points in the fourth set and fended them off to get the win. It was the third time in KSU's history they have beaten the Bisons, but first time in the KSU Convocation Center. All three victories for the Owls have been in five sets over Lipscomb.
• Two Owls were honored by the ASUN for weekly awards.
Anaiah Boyer claimed her fourth career ASUN Player of the Week honor after leading the team in kills with 13. When Kennesaw State needed her to step up the most, she did. As they were trailing 24-22 in the fourth set, Boyer had three kills spoiling Lipscomb's chance at a victory.
•
Rachel Taylor won her first ASUN award by being named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week. She was a force at the net coming up with eight blocks in the match. Taylor also had four kills with no errors.
• The Owls have started 4-0 at home in the KSU Convocation Center and a big part of that is the crowds have been tremendous. KSU is averaging 971 fans per game, which is the highest average attendance among the ASUN, Big South, SoCon, Sun Belt and Conference USA schools.
• Through the season, KSU is second in the ASUN in hitting percentage and also second in opponent hitting percentage. This Friday night against FGCU, the two top teams in hitting percentage will be facing each other. The Eagles hit .268 and the Owls hit .235 on the season.
• Through non-conference play, the Owls have had a couple career milestones reached with two of their seniors.
Katarina Morton surpassed the 1,500 career digs mark and
Anaiah Boyer passed 1,000 career kills.
• Morton was the second player in Kennesaw State history and the 10th player in ASUN history to pass the 1500 dig mark. She is currently 70 digs away from setting a new KSU record.
• Kennesaw State was undefeated against in-state opponents topping Georgia State and Georgia in straight sets. Over the past three seasons, Schunzel's teams have been 8-2 against other NCAA Division I opponents from Georgia.
• Junior
Maddie Jones has taken her game to a new level this season leading the team in kills with 106. That kill mark already has set a new season career high for Jones as 92 was the most she's had in a season before.
• Kennesaw State has beaten FGCU the three of the last four seasons on their home floor.
