Game Preview
Kennesaw State begins ASUN play this Friday, September 22 against the Lipscomb Bisons at 7:00 p.m. in the KSU Convocation Center.
The Owls shared the regular season championship with the Bisons a season ago with both of them going 12-2.
KSU and Lipscomb have split matches the past two seasons, but the Owls have never defeated the Bisons on their home court.
Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Kennesaw State finished non-conference play 6-3 with four of those wins being in straight sets.
• Through non-conference play, the Owls have had a couple career milestones reached with two of their seniors.
Katarina Morton surpassed the 1,500 career digs mark and
Anaiah Boyer passed 1,000 career kills.
• Morton was the second player in Kennesaw State history and the 10th player in ASUN history to pass the 1,500 dig mark. She is currently 86 digs away from setting a new KSU career record.
• Through non-conference play, the Owls lead the ASUN in opponent hitting percentage holding their opponents to an average .174 through nine matches. In five of those matches, KSU has held their opponents below a .150 hitting percentage.
• Kennesaw State was undefeated against in-state opponents topping Georgia State and Georgia in straight sets. Over the past three seasons, Schunzel's teams have been 8-2 against other NCAA Division I opponents from Georgia.
• With the two wins against Illinois State and St. Louis, head coach
Keith Schunzel has the most wins by a coach in Kennesaw State volleyball history.
• Junior
Maddie Jones has taken her game to a new level this season leading the team in kills with 93. That kill mark already has set a new season career high for Jones as 92 was the most she's had in a season before.
•
Liesl Engelbrecht is second in the conference in hitting percentage terminating the ball .375 percent of the time. She is second on the team with 80 kills.
•
Kristi Piedimonte is one of two players in the conference to average over 10 assists per set. Piedimonte has 315 assists on the season averaging 10.50 per set. In one set against Kentucky, the senior setter had 19 assists.
• Freshman
Lauren Chastang saw her first action of the season last weekend against Kentucky and Louisville.
• The Owls have split matches in the regular season the past two years with Lipscomb. Kennesaw State has never beaten Lipscomb on their home floor.
Promotion
It is Student Appreciation Night on Friday, September 22 and the first 400 students will receive a free t-shirt when they present a student ID.
Next Up
Kennesaw State will stay at home and host FGCU on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. on the next day, Stetson will be in town for a meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
