Game Preview
The Kennesaw State women's soccer team approaches the halfway point of its regular season this week when it plays a pair of matches at Middle Tennessee and hosts Furman.
Â
Following a 3-1 homestand, the Owls will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to visit Middle Tennessee on Friday beginning at 8 p.m. (ET). KSU will return to Fifth Third Bank Stadium to host Furman Sunday at 2 p.m. (ET) in its final non-conference match of the season.
Â
The Owls split a pair of matches last week, falling 3-1 to Alabama on Thursday before blanking UNC Asheville, 3-0, on Sunday.
Â
Kennesaw State begins play this week with a 5-1-2 record, marking its best eight-match start since 2005 when KSU began the season 8-1-1.
Â
With five shutouts thus far this season, the Owls are one shutout shy of equaling their season total from a year ago. The program single-season record is 13 set in 2002.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Benji Walton
"It's always good to be home and do well in front of your fans. Today (Sunday) was a good win, and we had three shutouts here at home. We are proud of our defense and hopefully we keep it going because we have a lot of home games this year."
Â
Week in Review
A quick start by Alabama proved too much for Kennesaw State to overcome as the Owls fell 3-1 to the Crimson Tide Thursday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The loss was the first of the year for KSU, which had its three-match winning streak snapped. Alabama gained the upper hand less than two minutes into the match, scoring at the 1:46 mark. The Crimson Tide added to its lead in the 16th minute and led 2-0 at halftime.
Abby Roth accounted for KSU's goal, scoring late in the second half.
Â
Kennesaw State concluded its four-match homestand with a 3-0 victory over visiting UNC Asheville Sunday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Owls received goals from freshman from
Erin Harris and seniors
Ashtah Das and
Jessica Sexton en route to posting their third shutout in their last four matches.
