MACON, Ga. – A solid defensive effort and two first-half goals stood up as the Kennesaw State women's soccer team defeated host Mercer, 2-0, Sunday at Bear Field in Macon.

Tiffany Sornpao, who started her second career match, totaled five saves and recorded her second straight shutout to help the Owls improve to 2-0-2 on the season. The Bears fell to 2-2.

FIRST STRIKE
Senior
Ida Hepsoe got the Owls going after receiving a cross from
Ashtah Das inside the box and drilling a left-footed shot into a vacant spot in the left side of the goal at the 28:33 mark to give KSU a 1-0 lead. It was her first goal of the season.

PENALTY KICK
The Owls capitalized on their first penalty kick of the season when senior
Abby Roth converted the attempt in the 38th minute.

ROAD WARRIORS
Sunday's match at Mercer concluded a stretch of four straight road contests to open season for the Owls, who went unbeaten, recording a 2-0-2 record while posting a pair of shutouts.

"I am proud of our team fight this weekend. We have been really working on being more organized and to get two shutouts this weekend was huge for our young team," head coach
Benji Walton said. "We want to keep building from here as our schedule will only get more difficult as the season continues."

Seven different players have scored Kennesaw State's seven goals this season, with Hepsoe and Roth the latest to score for the Owls.
