DECATUR, Ga. – A quick start and big first half stood up as Kennesaw State posted a 4-3 victory over Georgia State for its first win of the year Sunday at GSU Soccer Field in Decatur.

The Owls (1-0-1) received goals from four different players, including three freshmen, taking command early and scoring twice in the first 15 minutes, and adding their final goal as time expired in the first half.

FIRST STRIKE
Sophomore Isabella Contreras set the tone, scoring at the 11:44 mark after receiving the ball from Emely Sosa and slipping a shot through the upper left corner of the goal to put the Owls on the board.

FRESHMAN FRENZY
Following Contreras' goal, the freshmen took over with Kendall Hart notching her first career goal less than three minutes later when she scored off a deflection at the 14:03 mark. Erin Harris gave KSU a 3-1 lead in the 29th minute, and Kameron Downs capped the first-half scoring after receiving a pass from Carly Pressgrove and finding the back of the net at the buzzer.

QUOTING THE COACH
"It is always good to get a win especially against a well-organized team like Georgia State," head coach Benji Walton said. "We had moments of some really good soccer but we need to be more consistent for 90 minutes. I told the team to be proud of the win but not be satisfied, and stay dedicated to the process. I look forward to seeing how we continue to respond to new challenges. We have two very tough road games next weekend so we have to refocus quickly."

OF NOTE
Kennesaw State out-shot Georgia State, 10-3, in the first half, with seven shots on goal. Things turned around a bit in the second half as the Panthers (0-2-0) had a 10-3 shot advantage.

Next Up
The Owls return to action on Friday when they travel to Macon to take on Georgia Southern in a neutral site match beginning at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
