The Owls continue their non-conference slate with back-to-back midweeks against Power 5 opponents Georgia Tech and Auburn. Coming off a 2-2 week with a win against Georgia, Kennesaw State welcomes Tech to Stillwell Stadium for a tilt on ESPN3, before trekking to Auburn for a 6 p.m. affair on SEC Network Plus.
ON DECK
- After falling to a 1-2 mark over opening weekend, Kennesaw State has rebounded with a 5-3 mark over its last eight games to head into the new week with a 6-5 overall record. During the 5-3 stretch, the Owls are batting .317, outscoring opponents 64-30 and have totaled a 3.47 ERA.
- Kennesaw State takes on #19 Georgia Tech at Stillwell Stadium Tuesday evening on ESPN3, marking their first meeting of 2017. Nathan McCreary and Scott Whitlock will have the call. The Owls will then travel to Auburn for a contest on SEC Network Plus at Hitchcock Field.
- Head Coach Mike Sansing is back for his 26th season with the Black and Gold. He is the second-youngest coach on the 1,000-win list, and is one of 13 active coaches with 1,000 victories who have coaches at least 10 seasons of D-I baseball.
- Junior outfielder Taylor Allum was named ASUN Player of the Week following an impressive week at the plate. Allum went 8-for-12 (.667) at the dish, driving in seven RBI and totaled two home runs. He slugged 1.167 and totaled an on-base percentage of .750 to help the Owls go 2-2 in four games.
- Kennesaw State exploded for 19 runs last Saturday against Middle Tennessee, marking the fourth-most runs scored in a single game since 2006. The Owls have recorded 10 or more hits in a single game for the seventh time, including four of their last six games.
- During that stretch of six games, Kennesaw State has hit .324, totaled 10 doubles and seven home runs and have out-hit opponents 72-46. KSU has outscored opponents 52-25 over their last six games entering the new week.
- Junior first baseman Austin Upshaw has made his presence felt in the lineup, ranking first in AB (44), runs (15), hits (15), doubles (6) and ranks second with 15 RBI, as he is one of two owls that has started in all 11 games (David Chabut) entering the week.
- KSU plays a total of 56 games in the regular season, 33 of them coming at home and 23 on the road. The Owls take on 16 (eight home, eight away) midweek tilts and opens ASUN action on the road at North Florida on March 31.
- The Owls return 26 members from 2016, a team that won 17 games in the ASUN and became the first team since 2010 (FGCU) to win each regular-season conference series.
ALLUM NAMED ASUN POTW
- Junior outfielder Taylor Allum earned his first career ASUN Player of the Week honors after producing seven RBI, two home runs and going 8-for-12 (.667) in four games last week.
- Allum, a Grayson, Ga., native, produced in a big way offensively during the Owls' 2-2 week. The left-handed hitter totaled hits in all four games, Â Â with three of them being multi-hit games.
- Allum went 8-for-12 (.667) at the dish, driving in seven RBI and totaled two home runs and four runs scored. He slugged 1.167 and totaled an on-base percentage of .750.
- His week began with a 2-for-3 performance on the road at Georgia, totaling a home run and two RBI. His big day at the plate helped Kennesaw State knock off the Bulldogs at Foley Field.
- Allum then followed with a big weekend at Middle Tennessee, going 6-for-9 (.667) with five RBI, a home run, and three runs scored.
- His four RBI day on Saturday marked a new career high. Allum enters the new week on a five-game hitting streak and has tallied at least one hit in eight of his 10 starts.
UP, UP AND AWAY
- Austin Upshaw hit his fourth home run of the season in the first inning Sunday at Middle Tennessee, marking his second long ball over the last three games.
- Entering the new week, the Buford, Ga., native, has totaled four home runs in 11 starts. He has totaled at least one hit in nine of his 11 starts.
- Upshaw ranks first in AB (44), runs (15), hits (15), doubles (6) and ranks second with 15 RBI, as he is one of two owls that has started in all 11 games (David Chabut) entering the week.
- Interestingly, the junior has struggled at the plate on the road, hitting just .222 (4-for-18), but has totaled three of his four HR on the road and eight of his 15 RBI away from Kennesaw.
- The left-handed hitter has been impressive at the plate during seven home games at Stillwell Stadium, batting .423 (11-for-26) with a team-high 12 runs, five doubles and second (Taylor Allum, nine) with seven RBI.
