Game Preview
Kennesaw State hosts Mercer for a big ASUN in-state matchup with the Bears on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
Both teams have had good starts to the season as KSU is 5-3 and Mercer is 7-2. Between the two teams, they are in the top two in five different statistical categories in the ASUN.
Kennesaw State Team Notes
• Before facing Central Michigan, Kennesaw State was on its longest win streak, winning five in a row. With one more win, the Owls will set a new program record for wins in a season.
• KSU has scored over 20 goals in four of the last six games. The Owls currently sit in a tie for fourth in the nation in scoring offense averaging 15.88 goals per game.
• Overall offense isn't the only thing that the Owls are towards the top of the country in. They are also second in the country in draw controls winning 17.13 per game and third in the country in picking up ground balls averaging 24.13 per game.
• A big reason the Owls rank so highly in draw controls is
Sydney Farwick. She is second in the conference averaging 5.63 per game and won nine draw controls against Detroit and eight draw controls twice. Farwick was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week two weeks in a row earlier in the season.
• Farwick isn't only getting the job done on the draws as she leads the team in goals scoring 25 and in ground balls with 29.
•
Haley Swift has emerged on the offensive end with 21 goals and 13 assists. Against Detroit, she set a new school record finishing with 10 points scoring six goals and dishing out four assists.
•
Connor Zophy leads Kennesaw State with 36 points scoring 22 goals and 11 assists. She has scored at least three goals in five games this season.
• The Owls started ASUN play last weekend by returning to
Laura Maness' previous school, Detroit Mercy. KSU ended up getting its first victory over Detroit Mercy in program history winning 21-12. KSU was 0-4 previously against the Titans.
• In two of the last three games, Kennesaw State has combined to cause 38 turnovers. The team caused 16 against Presbyterian setting a new school record and followed that up with 15 more against Central Michigan.
• After getting a split on the road, KSU is happy to be coming home. They are 4-1 in Fifth Third Bank Stadium this season.
• KSU and Mercer come into the game this weekend with the two best winning percentages in ASUN. The two teams also have the highest scoring margin in the ASUN.
Next Up
Kennesaw State has a full week of games for spring break that kicks off against No. 12 Notre Dame on Thursday, April 6. Following that game, the Owls host Delaware State on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. and then Howard on Sunday, April 9.
