FORT MYERS, Fla.
 – Kennesaw State men's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Thursday, March 2 at FGCU in a 74-62 defeat in Alico Arena.

KSU finished the season by setting a new Division I record for wins with 14.

"I'm disappointed about the results of tonight's game, but overall I recognize that we've made some improvements," head coach Al Skinner said. "Overall in comparison for the history of Kennesaw State we had a successful year. For me, I don't look at it that way. We had other expectations for us, but we're headed in the right direction. We made some progress."

The Owls finished 7-7 in the ASUN overall and had the fifth seed coming into the ASUN Tournament.

"This team competed against all teams in this league, but again my expectations are more than that," Skinner said. "The next step is to be in the top half of this league. After that, we want to be where FGCU is and playing in the ASUN Championship game. That's our goal and what we're working towards. All year long, it was very challenging because at different times we had injuries and it was difficult to establish a rotation. We had a lot of young players trying to learn. There were times I had five freshmen on the floor and they had some success. I hope we continue to do that. I just challenged the guys returning and explained to them the amount of work that needs to be done. Hopefully we'll put in the work and continue to improve."

In front of a packed crowd at Alico Arena, FGCU jumped out to an early lead on the Owls, but Kennesaw State's outside shooting by Kendrick Ray and Nick Masterson got them back in the game. The two combined to go 4-7 in the first 20 minutes of action from behind the arc to keep the Owls within striking distance.

With 1:09 remaining in the first, FGCU went up seven points on a three pointer of their own, but Kennesaw State responded on a 4-0 run in the final minute to trail by three at halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, the Eagles drew first blood going on a 6-0 run in the first two minutes to go up nine. With the home crowd behind them, FGCU stretched out their lead to double figures and the Owls had trouble getting back in the game.

Ray led the Owls with 27 points and five assists in his final game in an Owl uniform. For the season, he finished with 656 points averaging 21.2 points per game.

Masterson was the other Kennesaw State player in double figures with 16 points on 6-7 shooting. He finished the season shooting 49.8 percent from the floor overall and 54.1 percent from behind the arc.

Aubrey Williams finished the night with six points and six assists, but the Second Team All-Conference member finished the season as the only player to average a double-double with 12.9 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game.

The Owls final record was 14-18 this season.
